Role Overview

The Lead Practitioner position reports directly to the Team Manager, offering guidance and leadership in practice through exemplary direct engagement; fostering staff development and specialization in designated areas of practice.

As an expert in the field, the Lead Practitioner is responsible for delivering or significantly contributing to positive safety and well-being outcomes for children. This role includes supporting team members in enhancing their practice levels and building confidence in their professional capabilities.

The Lead Practitioner is expected to demonstrate a strong ability to achieve outcomes and serve as a role model for the team through effective execution of the following responsibilities:

1. Engagement and relationship building/maintenance.

2. Case management.

3. Analytical assessment and ongoing evaluation.

4. High-quality report writing and documentation.

5. Making informed professional judgments and recommendations based on assessments and reviews.

6. Development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based plans.

7. Providing direct support to children and their families.

8. Matching children/families with appropriate evidence-based services tailored to their identified needs.

9. Coordinating multi-professional and agency contributions to assessment, planning, and support.

10. Applying theoretical frameworks to all aspects of practice.

11. Encouraging innovative and creative assessments and planning to assist children and their families.

12. Consistently meeting performance standards throughout the child’s journey.

Essential Qualifications

We seek experienced Lead Practitioners who possess the following qualifications:
- Qualified Social Worker, currently registered with Social Work England
- Foundation level systemic practice qualification – desirable
- Practice Educator or Practice Teacher qualification – desirable
- In-depth knowledge of national policies, strategies, and developments affecting children's social care.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, statutory guidance, standards, and procedures.
- Understanding of theoretical frameworks, practice models, and research findings.
- Knowledge of reflective supervision models that influence practice and outcomes.
- Ability to maintain comprehensive records that document engagement with children and families, contributing to quality assurance frameworks.
