Position Overview

Are you seeking a role in Emergency Medicine within a prominent UK teaching hospital recognized for its Major Trauma Centre? Do you possess experience in an Emergency Department (ED) within the NHS, either in a training or clinical fellow capacity?

The Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to present opportunities for enthusiastic medical professionals to join our supportive Emergency Medicine team for a 12-month tenure.

In this role, you will engage in a progressive and dynamic environment dedicated to the Trust's mission of enhancing staff development and achieving exceptional healthcare outcomes for patients.

Depending on your qualifications, you may be appointed to a Junior Fellow position on our Tier 2 rota (equivalent to CT1 or CT2) or on our Tier 3 rota (CT3 level).

Eligibility Criteria

We can only consider applications from candidates currently employed in an ED within the NHS or those who have accumulated a minimum of six months of relevant NHS experience at any point in their career (please note that clinical attachments do not qualify as NHS experience and will not be considered for shortlisting).

Key Responsibilities

Working in our ED involves a variety of management skills, including overseeing daily operations, adhering to performance targets, and continuously reprioritizing tasks.

You will receive support to navigate competencies and develop a portfolio of evidence to meet your objectives, working under the clinical guidance of Emergency Medicine Consultants who are available in the department around the clock. All Fellows will benefit from a monthly teaching day and dedicated educational development time as part of their rota. You will be assigned both an Educational and Clinical supervisor.

About Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

NUH comprises the Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital Campuses. The Queen's Medical Centre houses our Emergency Department, which includes co-located adult and children's units. NUH is the designated Major Trauma Centre for the East Midlands region.

Our innovative and research-oriented Emergency Department is among the busiest in Europe, with 195,000 new attendances each year. The Children's ED caters to 44,000 children and young people and has recently enhanced its resuscitation capabilities through significant investment.

Candidate Expectations

  • A minimum of two years post-MBBS (or equivalent) experience, alongside Emergency Department experience
  • At least six months of NHS ED experience (please note that clinical attachments do not fulfill this requirement)
  • Current ALS provider certification
  • Proficient written English skills
  • A demonstrated interest in Emergency Medicine

This position is classified as a service role and does not carry educational approval; however, you will receive exceptional training and educational opportunities tailored to your individual needs.

We anticipate that you will remain current with medical knowledge and practices, participate in departmental clinical meetings, and engage in audit and training activities for other professionals.
