Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Clinical Fellow to join our esteemed Oncology Department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This role presents a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the comprehensive field of Oncology.

The position offers a 12-month tenure initially, with the possibility of extension, and is ideal for IMT3/ST3 level trainees eager to enhance their oncology expertise prior to securing a National Training Number (NTN).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work closely with an oncology consultant, performing duties akin to those of NTN holders. Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging in acute oncology tasks, attending clinics, participating in radiotherapy planning, and gaining exposure to clinical trials.
  • On-call responsibilities may be available for those with full MRCP qualifications.
  • Specialization discussions can be arranged for candidates with specific interests or those considering this role as a pathway to alternative career avenues such as palliative care or respiratory medicine.

About Our Department

Our department caters to a significant resident population and sees approximately 3000 new patients annually, delivering a wide array of non-surgical oncology services across the East Midlands. We have a robust team of around 30 Medical and Clinical Oncology Consultants who provide specialized care within multidisciplinary teams.

We prioritize the training and development of junior staff, with a structured training program integrated into the Trent Deanery rotations. Currently, we have about 50 Junior Doctor positions, including Clinical Oncology and Medical Oncology Specialist Trainees, Clinical Fellows, and Foundation Doctors.

Our department also offers an internationally recognized PGDIP Course in Oncology, alongside a vibrant Clinical Trials program supported by a dedicated research team.

Educational Opportunities

The Clinical Fellow will be invited to participate in all specialist registrar training and educational meetings within the department. Contributions to the training of junior doctors and students on the ward are expected. Additionally, we aim to provide funding and access to the Oncology PGCert/PGDip.
