Lymphoma CAR-T Clinical Fellow

Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts Full time

Overview of the Position

This role is designed for a 12-month (extendable to 24 months) full-time appointment, offering comprehensive training in all facets of lymphoma and CAR T therapy within both inpatient and outpatient environments. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a nationally recognized center that leads in research and clinical advancements in hematological oncology. The successful candidate will receive clinical and educational mentorship from experienced Consultants in the lymphoma team, integrated within a broader multidisciplinary framework, and will have the chance to engage in active clinical research.

The position provides avenues for involvement in both undergraduate and postgraduate education, along with opportunities for educational oversight, research, and leadership roles within the specialty. Currently, there is no formal 'on call' requirement, but candidates may opt to participate in the ST on-call rota during their tenure.

We are open to two categories of applicants: first, those who have achieved a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in hematology and seek to enhance their expertise before pursuing a Consultant role specializing in lymphoid malignancies; second, those in the final two years of their hematology specialist training program (having completed FRCPath part I or II), contingent upon approval for out-of-program training.

Candidates must possess full GMC registration at the time of appointment.

Key Responsibilities

The CAR-T Clinical Fellow will serve as a senior non-Consultant member of the lymphoma team at City Campus, NUH, gaining extensive and specialized training in CAR-T therapy within the context of lymphoid malignancies. The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with both medical and non-medical teams involved in CAR-T delivery, including Intensive Care Unit (ITU), neurology, palliative care, apheresis, stem cell laboratory, pharmacy, and others. A primary focus of this role will be to assist in the administration and oversight of CAR-T therapy in an outpatient setting. While there is no formal 'on call' commitment, opportunities to join the ST on-call rota will be available during the appointment.

General duties will encompass:

  • Contributing to the tertiary referral service for patients with lymphoid malignancies, including but not limited to CAR-T, with regular patient evaluations in close collaboration with Consultant and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) staff.
  • Participation in both the lymphoma/CAR-T multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and the national CAR-T panel.
  • Responsibilities for dedicated outpatient clinic sessions.
  • Oversight of patients enrolled in lymphoma/CAR-T clinical trials.
  • Educating junior doctors and medical students.
  • Engaging in departmental educational meetings, research initiatives, and audits.
