Role Overview

As a Trade Planning Manager at Sainsbury's, you will be an integral part of a dynamic and influential team dedicated to shaping both immediate trade responses and long-term strategic planning. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various brands and channels, including Sainsbury's, Argos, Tu, Habitat, and Nectar, allowing you to significantly impact the development and implementation of a comprehensive Trading Plan.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve:

  • Coordinating diverse inputs to create a cohesive trading strategy that aligns cross-functional teams in delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborating closely with departments such as Commercial, Digital, Retail, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to define and execute large-scale trading initiatives.
  • Leading the end-to-end planning and execution of events, continuously reviewing and adjusting strategies based on performance metrics.
  • Translating and critically assessing planning inputs while supporting the Post-Implementation Review (PIR) process.
  • Representing the General Merchandise (GM) sector in various forums and working in tandem with reporting and merchandising teams.
  • Understanding the dynamics between commercial objectives, operational capabilities, and customer satisfaction to mobilize resources effectively.

  • The ability to transform a directional brief into a detailed, multi-functional plan.
  • Experience in multi-channel retailing across commercial, analytical, and operational disciplines.
  • A solid grasp of corporate strategy, objectives, and customer insights.
  • Proven project management skills with a collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork.
  • Expertise in stakeholder mapping and defining roles and responsibilities to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical capabilities to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency in facilitating discussions using various coaching and presentation techniques.
  • Capability to develop engaging content and analyses using tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
