Role Overview

As a Trade Planning Manager at Sainsbury's, you will be an integral part of a dynamic and influential team dedicated to shaping both immediate trade responses and long-term strategic planning. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with all our brands and channels, including Sainsbury's, Argos, Tu, Habitat, and Nectar, as you contribute to the formulation and execution of a comprehensive Trading Plan.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve:

  • Coordinating diverse inputs to create a cohesive trading strategy that aligns cross-functional teams in delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborating closely with various departments such as Commercial, Digital, Retail, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to define and implement effective trading initiatives.
  • Leading the planning and execution of significant events, regularly assessing and refining the trading plan based on performance metrics.
  • Translating and critically evaluating planning inputs while supporting the Post-Implementation Review (PIR) process.
  • Representing General Merchandise in various strategic forums and working in tandem with reporting and merchandising teams.
  • Understanding the interplay between commercial objectives, operational capabilities, and customer satisfaction.
  • Fostering an inclusive and values-driven workplace culture.
Essential Qualifications

  • A strategic mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to translate high-level briefs into detailed, multi-functional plans.
  • Experience in multi-channel retailing across commercial, analytical, and operational domains.
  • A solid grasp of corporate strategy, objectives, and customer insights.
  • Proven project management capabilities with a track record of leading cross-functional teams.
  • Expertise in stakeholder mapping and defining roles and responsibilities.
  • Strong commercial insight and analytical proficiency, capable of navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Skills in facilitating discussions using various coaching and presentation techniques.
  • Proficiency in creating engaging content and analyses using tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
