Position Overview
As a Trade Planning Manager at Sainsbury's, you will be an integral part of a dynamic and influential team dedicated to shaping our immediate trade strategies and long-term planning initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with all our brands and channels, including Sainsbury's, Argos, Tu, Habitat, and Nectar, allowing you to significantly impact the development and execution of a comprehensive Trading Plan.

Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will encompass:

  • Coordinating diverse inputs to create a cohesive trading strategy that aligns cross-functional teams in serving our customers effectively.
  • Collaborating closely with departments such as Commercial, Digital, Retail, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to establish impactful plans and execute large-scale trading initiatives.
  • Leading the end-to-end planning and execution of events, regularly assessing and adjusting the strategy as needed.
  • Translating and critically evaluating planning inputs while supporting the Post-Implementation Review (PIR) process.
  • Representing General Merchandise in various forums and working alongside reporting and merchandising teams to ensure successful trade execution.
  • Understanding the complexities and drivers of commercial, operational, and customer performance, while mobilizing resources to foster an inclusive and values-driven culture.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A strategic mindset with well-developed problem-solving capabilities.
  • The ability to transform a directional brief into a comprehensive, multi-functional plan.
  • Experience in multi-channel retailing across various commercial, analytical, and operational disciplines.
  • A strong grasp of corporate strategy, objectives, and customer insights.
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across functions.
  • Expertise in creating stakeholder maps and defining roles and responsibilities.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Competence in facilitating discussions using a variety of coaching and presentation techniques.
  • Proficiency in developing engaging content and analyses using tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
