Clinical and Forensic Psychological Practitioner

Dartford, Kent, United Kingdom Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This role is situated within a dynamic and nurturing psychological services division, encompassing two distinct areas where mental health challenges intersect with the justice system. A portion of your time will be dedicated to inpatient secure facilities, where you will conduct psychological evaluations and therapeutic interventions, alongside providing expert consultation to a multidisciplinary team regarding clinical and risk-related matters. The second area focuses on a specialized psychological therapies service, delivering assessments and interventions to outpatient clients in the community.

While prior forensic experience is not a prerequisite, this position is ideal for individuals eager to engage with complex cases and enhance their skill set in assessment, intervention, and professional support.

Key Responsibilities

As a psychological therapist within a secure setting, you will collaborate with a broader team of psychological professionals across both inpatient and community services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting psychological assessments, developing formulations, and implementing therapeutic interventions for individuals exhibiting distress and risky behaviors.
  • Promoting a psychologically informed approach within care teams to foster an environment conducive to safety and therapeutic change.
  • Working autonomously while also participating in group therapy programs across both service areas, benefiting from regular reflective practice sessions.
  • Receiving training and support to supervise and manage assistant psychologists, students, and trainees.

The Forensic Psychological Therapies department offers a wide array of professional development opportunities, including research initiatives and career advancement pathways. As part of your onboarding, you will engage in development sessions designed to enhance your competencies at Band 7, facilitating your career trajectory towards an 8a role without the necessity of re-interviewing or changing positions.

Benefits associated with this role include monthly educational sessions, weekly individual supervision at Band 7, access to specialized supervision networks, and various continuing professional development opportunities, along with potential career progression within the department.
