Position Overview

The primary function of the individual in this role is to engage in the delivery of Psychological Services to individuals within the Community Forensic Learning Disability Service.

Utilizing both clinical and analytical skills, you will enhance an existing position within the team, collaborating closely with service users, support personnel, and the broader team to facilitate a thorough psychological service and assess the effectiveness of these services. This role necessitates close cooperation with various organizations, including community services and the criminal justice sector.

Challenges of the Role

The most demanding aspect of this position is managing multiple interconnected tasks while adhering to the time and resource constraints of the service.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Actively participate in the coordination and execution of initial assessments and formulations under the guidance of a licensed psychologist. Collect and organize information and reports to aid in the development of risk assessments and treatment strategies.
  2. Administer and evaluate relevant formal psychometric assessment tools and other assessment methods, compiling reports and behavioral care plans as necessary.
  3. Co-facilitate structured group sessions, such as anger management, social skills training, problem-solving, and offense-specific risk reduction, tailored to the needs of the patient demographic. Additionally, gather and synthesize information from protocols for future treatment planning.
  4. Engage in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research, contributing to data collection aimed at enhancing service delivery.
  5. Provide administrative assistance to clinical psychologists, including conducting literature reviews for pertinent articles, gathering information for case discussions, and assisting in the planning of specific group sessions.
  6. No financial or managerial responsibilities are assigned, but you will be accountable for tasks as directed by clinical and forensic psychologists within the service.
  7. Travel between various sites may be required, which is a crucial aspect of this role in community service, necessitating timely travel across designated areas.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • A good honors degree in Psychology (minimum 2:1) recognized by the British Psychological Society.

Desirable:

  • A Master's degree in psychology or a related mental health/forensic field.

Experience Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges.

Desirable:

  • Experience within community learning disability or mental health teams, and/or the criminal justice system.

Research Skills

Essential:

  • Experience in research methodologies and data compilation.

Experience with Offending Behavior:

Essential:

  • Experience working with individuals with histories of offending behavior.
