Clinical Psychologist in Forensic and Community Settings
3 months ago
Position Overview
This role is situated within a dynamic and nurturing psychological department, encompassing two distinct service areas that address the intersection of mental health challenges and the criminal justice system. A portion of your time will be dedicated to inpatient secure services, where you will conduct psychological evaluations and deliver therapeutic interventions, alongside providing psychological consultation to a multidisciplinary team regarding clinical and risk-related matters. The second service area features a specialized psychological therapies program, offering assessments and interventions to outpatient clients in the community.
While prior forensic experience is not a prerequisite, this position is ideal for individuals eager to engage with complex clinical scenarios and who possess a strong desire to acquire and enhance a diverse skill set for assessment, intervention, and professional support.
Key Responsibilities
As the psychological therapist within a secure ward, you will collaborate with a broader team of psychological practitioners across both inpatient and community services. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting psychological assessments, developing formulations, and implementing therapeutic interventions for individuals exhibiting distress and risk behaviors.
- Promoting psychologically informed care practices within the teams to foster an environment conducive to safety and therapeutic change.
- Working autonomously while also engaging in collaborative efforts with psychological therapy teams in group programs across both service areas, participating in regular reflective practice sessions.
- Receiving support and training to supervise and/or manage assistant psychologists, students, and trainees.
The Forensic Psychological Therapies department offers a wide array of professional opportunities, including avenues for research and career advancement. As part of the preceptorship, you will have access to development sessions aimed at consolidating your skills at Band 7 and facilitating your career trajectory into an 8a role without the necessity of re-interviewing or changing positions.
Benefits associated with this role include monthly educational sessions in psychology, weekly individual supervision at Band 7, access to specialized psychological supervision networks, a variety of continuing professional development opportunities, and pathways for future career progression within the department.
