Job Overview

The Ministry of Defence's Directorate of Judicial Engagement Policy (DJEP) is dedicated to enhancing the MOD's capacity to navigate the intricate legal landscape associated with military operations, both historical and current.

With an increasing volume of intricate legal claims arising from various military engagements, there is a pressing need for DJEP to effectively manage these claims on behalf of the MOD. The challenges posed by conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and historical operations in Northern Ireland have led to a surge in litigation, criminal inquiries, public investigations, and a significant number of compensation claims.

The MOD promotes a hybrid working model, expecting a minimum of 60% office attendance, allowing for both collaborative in-person engagements and remote work. This approach fosters teamwork, stakeholder interaction, and a balanced work-life environment.

This role entails a commitment of 37 hours per week.

Role Responsibilities

The DJEP Common Law Claims and Policy Team (CLCP) is seeking a business support officer to provide essential administrative assistance, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of numerous claims received through various channels. While most claims are managed by external providers, sensitive cases are handled internally. The types of claims include employer's liability, public liability, and third-party motor liability.

The successful candidate will oversee several key functions, including:

  • Updating Defence Instruction Notices (DINs) annually
  • Validating compensation and legal fee disbursements
  • Managing Periodic Payment Orders in collaboration with the MOD's forensic accountancy partner to ensure timely and accurate payments to claimants
  • Coordinating quarterly stakeholder engagement sessions and regular Policy team meetings
  • Organizing and maintaining documentation within the SharePoint system
  • Providing administrative support to the broader claims team as needed
