Position Overview

This is a full-time permanent role within the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, primarily located at a dedicated children's healthcare facility. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team providing a comprehensive range of pediatric emergency services.

Role Responsibilities

The appointee will be responsible for delivering high-quality Pediatric Urgent and Emergency Care, ensuring the effective diagnosis, treatment, and management of pediatric patients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert clinical care and oversight within the pediatric emergency department.
  • Ensuring the ongoing care and treatment of patients under your supervision, while effectively delegating tasks and mentoring junior staff.
  • Maintaining a consistent presence in the emergency department, with a commitment to providing senior medical cover throughout the week.
  • Overseeing the professional development and management of junior medical personnel, including teaching and assessment duties.
  • Contributing to educational initiatives at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Department Overview

The pediatric emergency department is a state-of-the-art facility that handles a substantial number of patient visits annually. Recognized for excellence in emergency care, the department is actively involved in clinical research and training initiatives.

We operate as a unified access point for all pediatric emergencies, with the capability to admit patients directly to the general pediatric ward. Our observation unit allows for the careful monitoring of patients, enhancing our service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent).
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies.
  • Completion of specialty training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine or equivalent.
  • Advanced life support certification.
  • Training in child protection and safeguarding.

Desirable:

  • Experience in teaching and mentoring medical students.
  • Involvement in clinical audits and governance.
