We are excited to announce an opportunity for three permanent Consultants in Emergency Medicine to become part of our supportive and dynamic Emergency Department team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

These positions are permanent, and we welcome applications from candidates interested in part-time work, considering the needs of the service.

The Emergency Department operates across three distinct areas, ensuring comprehensive care for our patients.

We are looking to fill 3 permanent roles, with 2 of these positions involving a balanced split between Adult Emergency Department and Clinical Emergency Department responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the care and treatment of patients under your supervision, ensuring high standards of clinical practice as outlined in your job plan, while also delegating appropriately and mentoring your team.
  • Stay informed about professional standards and adhere to them diligently.
  • Provide professional guidance, training, and management for junior medical staff, fulfilling teaching, assessment, and accreditation responsibilities as necessary, and contributing to educational initiatives at various levels.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours service alongside your Consultant colleagues, including on-call duties as specified in the job plan.

Job Responsibilities

  • Uphold the highest clinical standards in managing patients presenting to the emergency department.
  • Collaborate with the pediatric lead consultant and other team members to ensure quality care for pediatric patients in the children's emergency department.
  • Share responsibility with colleagues for the daily management of the emergency department, including service development and specialty collaboration.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential

  • FRCEM or equivalent qualification.
  • Evidence of registration on the GMC Specialist Register; OR possess CCT or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview, with registration on the GMC Specialist Register by the start date; OR provide evidence that the GMC is processing the Specialist Registration application (to be submitted prior to interview).
  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • Certification in ATLS/ETC & ALS.
  • APLS or PALS certification.

Desirable

  • MIMMS/HMIMMS Instructor status.
  • Additional higher qualification relevant to the specialty.
  • Subspecialty qualification in Acute Medicine.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • A broad range of relevant experience in Emergency Medicine.

Desirable

  • Subspecialty interest or experience.

Management Experience

Desirable

  • Management training from an accredited program.

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Skills in formal appraisal and educational/clinical supervision.

Desirable

  • Formal training in educational methodologies.

Audit & Research Experience

Essential

  • Experience in conducting audits in practice.

Desirable

  • Evidence of recent research and development activities relevant to the specialty.
  • Publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals on topics pertinent to the specialty.
