Commercial Officer - Fixed Term Opportunity

Are you an experienced commercial officer seeking a new fixed-term opportunity? Jonathan Lee Recruitment is assisting a leading global defence organization in the search for a Commercial Officer to provide maternity cover. This position offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits.

In the role of Commercial Officer, you will engage in business strategy, interact with clients, and deliver proactive commercial assistance in securing bids and executing contracts. Your responsibilities will include preparing detailed cost assessments and commercial proposals for both new and existing clients.

As part of your duties, you can expect to:

  • Assist the Business Development team in both securing new business and developing commercial proposals.
  • Create detailed cost assessments and commercial proposals for prospective, new, and existing clients.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and governance protocols during all costing and bidding activities, preparing necessary documentation for internal approvals.
  • Negotiate and finalize bids and contracts in accordance with business procedures, with guidance from the Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial.
  • Process client purchase orders and contracts while adhering to business protocols, preparing documentation for internal approvals.
  • Draft formal communications for external stakeholders, including commercial letters and proposals.
  • Support the Programme Management team during the contract delivery phase, addressing any contract and commercial issues.
  • Collaborate with various functional teams (e.g., Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, Finance) to resolve bid and project-related challenges.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of strong customer relationships.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate bids and commercial agreements such as NDAs, terms and conditions, and MOUs, with assistance from the Commercial Manager.
  • Ensure all necessary export documentation is accurate and complete, including licenses and export invoices.
  • Maintain compliance with US and UK export control regulations, with support from the Commercial Manager and Head of Commercial.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio effectively, prioritizing tasks and addressing conflicts as they arise.
  • Prepare and maintain Commercial Management Plans relevant to your portfolio.
  • Provide data and support for meetings pertinent to your assigned portfolio.
  • Actively engage in continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
  • Perform any additional duties as required to meet the needs of the organization.

To be considered for this Commercial Officer role, you should possess:

  • A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a commercially focused role.
  • The resilience and determination to manage high-pressure situations, particularly during bid activities.
  • A solid understanding of the various contracting environments relevant to the business, including UK MoD and US DoD regulations.
