Job Title: Commercial Officer

Job Type: Full-time, 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract (Maternity Cover)

Location: Remote (with occasional travel to client sites)

Salary: £45,000 per annum

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Officer to join our team at Reed, a leading recruitment agency. As a Commercial Officer, you will play a key role in supporting our business development activities, including creating commercial proposals, managing customer relationships, and ensuring compliance with business and governance procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Business Development: Assist in creating commercial proposals and business-winning activities, including developing cost estimates and commercial proposals for various clients.
  • Commercial Proposal Development: Prepare detailed commercial proposals for clients, ensuring all documentation is accurate and compliant with business and governance procedures.
  • Contract Management: Manage customer purchase orders and contracts, ensuring all documentation is approved in line with delegated authorities.
  • Negotiation and Contracting: Negotiate and finalize bids and contracts with clients, working closely with the Commercial Manager.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Maintain good customer relationships and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
  • Workload Management: Manage workload within an assigned portfolio, addressing any conflicts or priorities.
  • Commercial Management Plans: Provide support to meetings and maintain Commercial Management Plans relevant to the portfolio.

Requirements:

  • Education: Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience: Proven experience in a commercial role, preferably within similar contracting environments.
  • Skills: Resilience and tenacity, especially during high-intensity bid activities; strategic thinking with the ability to look beyond immediate tasks; understanding or willingness to learn UK and US export control regulations and contract terms; excellent numeracy and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, intermediate Excel skills, and ERP platforms (Syteline preferred); organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask against tight deadlines.
  • Certifications: Ability to obtain UK SC and/or Known Consignor clearance if required.
