Job Overview

The Patient Pathway Coordinator plays a vital role in delivering a high-quality administrative service within the ophthalmology department. This position focuses on managing clinic operations and patient interactions effectively. The coordinator will support management and multidisciplinary teams, including consultants, in overseeing patient care and clinic schedules.

The primary responsibility is to ensure that clinic operations are conducted safely for both patients and staff, which includes the necessary cancellation and rescheduling of appointments when required.

The coordinator will serve as the main point of contact for patients within this pathway, ensuring exceptional customer service is provided consistently.

Additionally, the role involves escalating any concerns regarding clinic capacity or patient issues to senior management as needed.

The coordinator will ensure that patient pathways are efficiently managed, preventing delays or loss to follow-up.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive support for clinic operations, ensuring patient numbers are maintained at safe levels.

- Act as the primary contact for patients, delivering outstanding customer service at all times.

- Ensure the smooth operation of patient pathways within the designated area, avoiding delays or loss to follow-up.

- Prepare updates and reports for stakeholders regarding patient management as necessary.

- Address inquiries from general practitioners, doctors, wards, and other departments in a calm and professional manner, adhering to clinical division policies.

- Offer basic information to patients, visitors, and caregivers, including directions and waiting times.

- Provide essential clinical information to patients and caregivers undergoing procedures.

- Deliver empathetic verbal support to patients and caregivers through face-to-face interactions and phone communications.

- Utilize hospital information systems to manage medical records, process patients, schedule appointments, and perform related tasks.

- Coordinate patient bookings within the unit, ensuring all relevant details and materials are communicated effectively.

- Order necessary stock items for the unit as required.
