Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quality Control Laboratory Assistant to join our team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. As a key member of our Quality Control Department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of quality and service delivery.

The Quality Control Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for providing technical support to our laboratory operations, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our testing and analysis. You will work closely with our laboratory team to receive, process, and dispatch samples, as well as maintain accurate records and documentation.

This is a non-clinical role, and you will not be in direct contact with patients or patient specimens. However, you will work in a laboratory environment and be required to follow strict protocols and procedures to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to laboratory operations, including receiving, processing, and dispatching samples.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, including sample logs and test results.
  • Work closely with laboratory team members to ensure the accuracy and reliability of testing and analysis.
  • Perform physical, chemical, and microbiological testing, as well as microbiology media preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory protocols and procedures, including Health and Safety at Work regulations.
Requirements
  • Relevant NVQ 2 or equivalent level of relevant work experience.
  • Previous relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including legible handwriting.
  • High level of customer care awareness and good interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and databases.
  • Office procedures, including data entry, document filing, and archiving.
  • Ability to work accurately and concentrate on repetitive tasks.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
