Position Overview

Witton Medical Centre is seeking to appoint a skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist to enhance our dedicated healthcare team. Our practice is comprised of multiple GP partners and serves a diverse patient population.

We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional healthcare services and are in search of a nurse who is committed to providing outstanding patient care across a broad spectrum of health needs.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering high-quality nursing and clinical care.
  • Collaborating effectively with members of the Primary Health Care Team.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in managing chronic illnesses and executing treatment plans for patients with long-term health conditions.
  • Identifying patients at risk of developing chronic diseases and implementing preventive measures.
  • Providing guidance on contraception and sexual health matters.
  • Conducting cervical cytology consultations and obtaining samples in line with established screening protocols.
  • Administering vaccinations and immunizations for both adults and children in accordance with national guidelines.
  • Offering advice and support for patients traveling abroad regarding necessary vaccinations.

Core Duties

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Conducting reviews for asthma and COPD patients.
  • Performing spirometry tests.
  • Managing diabetic patient reviews.
  • Overseeing dementia assessments.
  • Carrying out venepuncture procedures.
  • Administering hypertension management.
  • Facilitating childhood immunizations and vaccinations.
  • Providing travel and routine vaccinations.
  • Administering prescribed therapies while recognizing potential side effects and contraindications.
  • Conducting electrocardiography.
  • Managing coronary heart disease reviews.
  • Supporting minor surgical procedures, including vasectomies.
  • Requesting pathology tests as necessary.
  • Upholding infection control standards and implementing clinical protocols.
  • Responding to emergencies and providing first aid when required.
  • Managing treatment room supplies and ensuring adequate stock levels.
  • Conducting home visits as needed.
  • Participating in practice and nursing meetings.
  • Engaging in quality assurance activities, including clinical audits and incident reporting.
  • Analyzing data to enhance participation in national screening and immunization initiatives.
  • Ensuring timely action on correspondence and safety alerts relevant to the nursing team.
  • Maintaining high standards of record-keeping and administrative tasks in line with organizational policies.
  • Identifying opportunities to address health inequalities within the practice population.

Health Promotion

The role also involves advising patients on health promotion and illness prevention through education and lifestyle counseling, including recording relevant health metrics.

Professional Development

The post holder is expected to maintain their registration with the relevant professional body and engage in continuous professional development activities.

Team Collaboration

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and the Practice Manager to ensure the highest standards of care are met.
