About the Position
An exciting opportunity for an Engineering Shift Leader has emerged at our manufacturing facility. The site employs over 700 individuals and specializes in producing chilled Italian ready meals and pasta salads for a dedicated clientele.
Key Responsibilities
  • Understand daily priorities and plans, guiding and motivating the engineering shift team as necessary.
  • Oversee the engineering team (including contractors) to ensure the timely execution of scheduled and reactive tasks, optimizing plant availability and managing technical specifications for ingredients, products, processes, and packaging.
  • Implement agreed training and development plans to meet engineering and production requirements, ensuring compliance with statutory and Bakkavor Health & Safety standards, including ownership of the dynamic risk assessment process.
  • Minimize engineering downtime, accurately log incidents, and monitor repair times. Collaborate with planning and operations teams to ensure timely completion of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Communicate, report, and update Production Shift Managers, Senior Production/Engineering Managers, and relevant Production Team Leaders regarding current breakdown status, impacts, and resolution timelines.
  • Ensure all stock is accurately logged in and out of the stores area, highlighting any stock issues to the engineering team manager.
  • Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards appropriate for a quality food manufacturer, ensuring high levels of GMP standards in workshops and engineers' toolboxes.
  • Act as the Engineering point of contact during and outside of operational hours.
  • Respond to and prioritize shift tasks to resolve line running issues.
  • Carry out additional management requests as consistent with the role.

Candidate Profile
  • Engineering or Mechanical Apprenticeship (City & Guilds and National Certificate).
  • Strong fault-finding skills.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving techniques; Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5 Whys.
  • Experience and understanding of machine controls and PLCs.
  • Practical mechanical and electrical experience within a production environment, ideally in food manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable understanding of production prioritization (desirable).
