About the Position
A remarkable opportunity for an Engineering Shift Leader has emerged at our manufacturing facility in Old Leake, Boston. This site employs over 700 individuals and specializes in producing chilled Italian ready meals and pasta salads for a dedicated clientele.
Key Responsibilities
  • Understand daily priorities and plans, directing and motivating the engineering shift team as necessary.
  • Oversee the engineering team (including contractors) to ensure the completion of scheduled and reactive work, optimizing plant availability and managing technical specifications for ingredients, products, processes, and packaging.
  • Implement training and development plans to meet engineering and production requirements while complying with statutory and Bakkavor Health & Safety standards, ensuring all personnel work safely.
  • Minimize engineering downtime, accurately log incidents, and monitor repair times. Collaborate with planning and operations teams to ensure timely completion of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
  • Communicate and update Production Shift Managers, Senior Production/Engineering Managers, and relevant Production Team Leaders regarding breakdown status, impacts, and resolution timelines.
  • Ensure all stock is accurately logged in and out of the stores area, highlighting any stock issues to the engineering team manager.
  • Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards appropriate for a quality food manufacturer, ensuring GMP standards for workshops and engineers' toolboxes are upheld.
  • Act as the Engineering point of contact during and outside of working hours.
  • Respond to and prioritize shift tasks to resolve line running issues.
  • Carry out additional management requests as required.

Candidate Profile
  • Completion of an Engineering or Mechanical Apprenticeship (City & Guilds and National Certificate).
  • Strong fault-finding skills.
  • Familiarity with problem-solving techniques such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and the 5 Whys.
  • Experience and understanding of machine controls and PLCs.
  • Practical mechanical and electrical experience in a production environment, preferably within food manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of production prioritization (desirable).
