Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Parkinson's Specialist Nurse to join our team at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing expert nursing care to patients with Parkinson's disease and their families.

Main Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of patients with varying Parkinson's symptoms, providing patients and families with information on secondary prevention, education, advice, and encouragement.
  • Develop and implement individualized management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills and options.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and therapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a coordinated multi-disciplinary service.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, professionals, and non-professionals, using skilled interpersonal relationships to build trust, aid decision-making, and improve care outcomes.
  • Engage positively with healthcare transition activity and provide specialist care for patients with Apomorphine infusions.
Requirements
  • Qualified Nurse, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Diploma/Degree in nursing/specialist practice, with post-qualification training/courses relevant to nursing.
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical issues relating to Parkinson's, good knowledge of Neurology, therapy, and palliation.
  • Previous knowledge of the role or life experience with Parkinson's.
  • Leadership skills, critical appraisal and feedback skills, research and audit skills, presentation skills, and ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
