Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work as a Physician in a correctional setting. As a member of the institution's internal health services team, you will provide high-quality medical care to inmates and operate a Doctor's Office Practice within the correctional center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide professional medical care and medication management to inmates with assistance from nursing staff.
  • Analyze and interpret patients' histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
  • Diagnose or treat acute health care problems, such as illnesses, infections, or injuries.
  • Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
  • Assist with preparation and modification of treatment plans and recommend appropriate programs.
  • Provide evidence-based health education to the inmate population.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited medical college.
  • Completion of an approved residency in a primary care specialty.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia.
  • Board eligible or certified in a primary care specialty.
  • Extensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness and current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria.
  • Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing medical care in a correctional setting.
