Job Summary
This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work as an Institutional Physician in a correctional setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality medical care to inmates, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional medical care to inmates, including diagnosis, treatment, and medication management
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans
- Conduct regular health assessments and screenings to identify potential health issues
- Develop and implement health education programs to promote healthy behaviors and disease prevention
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of healthcare services
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited medical college
- Completion of an approved residency in a primary care specialty
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia
- Board eligible or certified in a primary care specialty
- Extensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities
- Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness and current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria
- Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population
- Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience providing medical care in a correctional setting
