Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients in a correctional setting, utilizing the nursing process and principles of general nursing care.
- Screen patients for sick call, administer medications, and provide first aid and basic life support as needed.
- Maintain open lines of communication with security and treatment staff, providing input and feedback to assist in organizing a treatment plan.
- Record all pertinent information into the medical record, interacting with other departments as needed.
- Promote continued competence through education and certification, with a focus on correctional nursing.
- Work hours, days, and locations as assigned, with the ability to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license or a multi-state compact license.
- Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
- Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals.
- Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care.
- Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment.
- Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
