Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Virginia Department of Corrections. As an LPN, you will provide evidence-based nursing care to patients in a correctional setting, utilizing the nursing process and principles of general nursing care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to patients, including administering medications, providing first aid, and maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Screen patients for sick call and provide basic life support as needed.
  • Collaborate with security and treatment staff to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with other departments and provide input and feedback to support the facility provider.
  • Participate in education and certification programs to promote continued competence in correctional nursing.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license or a multi-state compact license.
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of practical or general nursing care.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders.
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a corrections or law enforcement environment.
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care.
