Amphibious Equipment Maintenance Supervisor

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Full time

Position Overview

This is a remarkable opportunity to become part of the MOD Civil Service, collaborating with Royal Marines to provide essential support for Amphibious training and trials of new equipment aimed at fulfilling Defence objectives. This role, based at Royal Marines Instow and operating from Zeta Berth, offers a diverse, fulfilling, and dynamic work environment. Are you passionate about enhancing engineering administrative support to ensure operational efficiency? We seek a dedicated individual committed to improving the working conditions and experiences of our Royal Marines and the MOD Civil Servants who facilitate their operations.

Are you a proactive and diligent professional? One who is driven to contribute to Navy Command's mission of preparing a Royal Navy for present and future challenges by developing and delivering services for tomorrow? Continuous Amphibious Readiness is a primary goal of the Royal Navy. The 47 Commando Raiding Group Royal Marines (47Cdo (RG) RM) plays a crucial role in supporting the Commando Force's amphibious capabilities. Within 47 Cdo, 11 Squadron, stationed at RM Instow, this is achieved through the trials and development of cutting-edge amphibious equipment, delivering specialized training on various vehicles and boats to project and sustain forces from the sea.

The Craft Maintenance Supervisor is pivotal in ensuring we meet our operational goals by overseeing all equipment documentation and corrective maintenance of craft essential for fulfilling the demands of Zeta Berth and the broader Squadron. This busy and vital role is crucial for enabling the safe and efficient delivery of current and future operations.

This position is structured for 37 hours per week.

Where business needs permit, some roles may allow for a blend of office and remote working. This is a non-contractual arrangement, where all office-based personnel are expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working hours in the office, subject to capacity and any necessary workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official duties or work in another MOD office will also contribute to this attendance level. Applicants can inquire further about how this may function within their team from the Vacancy Holder.

Job Responsibilities

The Craft Maintenance Supervisor will assist RM Instow by providing essential maintenance and inspections of Craft equipment that supports the output of 11 Squadron.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the proper maintenance of Craft.
  • Supervising and documenting routine and corrective maintenance of machinery and associated systems.
  • Maintaining comprehensive records to meet audit and assurance requirements using appropriate MOD IT software systems, with full training provided.
  • Acting as Deputy Harbour Master.
  • Acting as Deputy Building Manager.

There may also be a requirement to collaborate with HMNB (Devonport) at 47Cdo, (RM Tamar) to perform support functions related to the job role. This may involve overnight stays at His Majesty’s Naval Base (Devonport), for which you will be entitled to Travel and Subsistence, in accordance with current policy.

Candidate Profile

As Craft Maintenance Supervisor, you will collaborate with other departments in support of Amphibious Trials and Training, assisting the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) crew with basic maintenance or aiding with lifting operations, occasionally during unsocial hours, for which a premium will be compensated in line with current MOD Policy.

You will also be responsible for requisitioning equipment spares concerning craft to ensure that RM Instow can continue to deliver outputs effectively.

Depending on experience and qualifications, travel, including overnight stays, may be necessary to complete training essential for fulfilling the role.

Licenses

Possess a full UK driving Licence with Category B entitlement. A driving license is required due to the remote nature of the location.

We will evaluate you against the following competencies during the selection process:

  • Managing a Quality Service
  • Working Together

In addition to a competitive salary, the Ministry of Defence contributes towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The benefits package also includes:
