About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist to join our Radiation Protection Group at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe use of ionising and non-ionising radiation in our hospital.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support all aspects of the group's work, including ionising radiation protection, optical radiation protection, and electromagnetic fields.
  • Provide services to various departments, including Dermatology, Theatres, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, Radiopharmacy, and Radiotherapy.
  • Assess safety requirements, carry out equipment performance testing, and train staff in radiation safety.
  • Work closely with clinical staff on X-ray optimisation projects and lead X-ray equipment performance testing.
  • Audit safety and compliance with IRR, CAORWR, IRMER, and EPR regulations.
Person Specification
  • Good Honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.
  • Relevant MSc or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of a PC, keyboard, and software, including MS Office.
  • Experience of operating x-ray and laser equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in an emotionally distressing clinical environment.
  • Ability to present complex data to large and varied audiences.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • PhD in a Physics-related subject.
  • Experience of working with quality management systems.
  • Presentation of scientific papers at professional meetings.
  • Publication of scientific papers or other reports.
