POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary role of a Chapter Lead is to enhance the skill set of the technical personnel within the Tribe. You will provide them with the necessary tools, methodologies, and best practices to achieve operational excellence, ensuring their focus remains on delivering value to the organization. The Chapter Lead is also responsible for the line management of the technical team members within the tribe.

In addition, as a Chapter Lead, you will function as a Senior Engineer within the Claims Tribe, assisting your Head of Chapter in developing the necessary capabilities. You will leverage your expertise to design and implement high-quality solutions for our end users and clients. The Chapter Lead is pivotal in ensuring engineering excellence across the Tribe.

This is a remarkable chance to become part of a versatile agile team in IT BTG - Applications, where you will contribute to the development of our core internal customer-facing applications that facilitate customer interaction with our products.

We are an innovative team utilizing state-of-the-art technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Guidewire, and leading tools like NPM and CI/CD processes.

IT BTG - Applications consists of small, inclusive, and collaborative teams. We promote an environment where team members can share ideas, solutions, and participate in decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of our teams and the products we deliver.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of technical resources, including career pathway development for all technical squad members.
  • Define and establish compensation, benefits, and promotion criteria for all members of the relevant Chapter.
  • Implement effective performance management processes to support squad leaders and product owners in enhancing squad performance.
  • Create an inclusive environment where Chapter members feel empowered to innovate, experiment, and learn from setbacks.
  • Serve as a role model for the values of productivity, quality, transparency, and openness, minimizing internal politics in the Chapter's operations.
  • Facilitate open communication channels to promote knowledge transfer within the Chapter.
  • Ensure that engineering, design, and testing standards align with Admiral IT governance and architectural standards while operating in a regulated environment.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Provide line management for all technical squad members within the Chapter, focusing on coaching and mentoring aligned with agile principles and Admiral values.
  • Manage the recruitment, retention, and onboarding processes for all technical squad members.
  • Support personal and technical skills development for squad members to enhance overall squad performance.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and promotion processes for Chapter members effectively.
  • Assist squads in achieving their objectives by aiding in problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making.
  • Enhance squad performance through effective performance management controls, leveraging input from squad leads and product owners.
  • Identify and impart essential software and hardware engineering skills required for the development of high-quality code, components, systems, and solutions.
  • Act as a senior coach and advisor to Agile Squads, balancing support with autonomy to foster problem-solving.
  • Assist squad leads and product owners in knowledge transfer across squads and the broader organization through clear communication.

INTERACTIONS

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with technical staff members.
  • Facilitate annual performance reviews and coordinate personal development plans.
  • Maintain a close relationship with Tribe leadership to understand the development needs of their personnel.
  • Participate in quarterly Portfolio Sync and weekly Portfolio checkpoint sessions, helping teams to eliminate systemic impediments.
  • Shield teams from distractions and unnecessary tasks.
  • Collaborate with Tribe Leadership to assess and monitor staffing requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in delivering quality solutions throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment.
  • Expertise in line management through coaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Familiarity with Scrum development practices and associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deployment.
  • In-depth knowledge of designing and developing solutions for Guidewire Claims Centre, encompassing a full stack of relevant technologies.
  • Understanding of engineering, design, and testing standards that comply with internal IT governance and architectural standards in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
