POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chapter Lead plays a pivotal role in enhancing the skills and capabilities of the technical personnel within the Tribe. Your mission is to provide them with the necessary tools, methodologies, and expertise to achieve operational excellence, ensuring a strong focus on delivering value to the organization.

In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will also function as a Senior Engineer within the Claims Tribe, collaborating closely with your Head of Chapter to enhance the team's capabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and implementing high-quality solutions for our users and clients, ensuring that engineering excellence is a consistent outcome across the Tribe.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a diverse and agile IT team within BTG - Applications, where you will contribute to the development of our essential internal applications that facilitate customer interactions with our offerings.

Our team is forward-thinking, utilizing advanced technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Guidewire, and industry-leading tools like NPM and CI/CD processes.

The IT BTG - Applications team consists of small, inclusive, and collaborative groups. We promote an environment where team members are encouraged to share ideas, solutions, and participate in decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of our teams and the products we deliver.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, and retention of technical resources, including career pathway development for all technical squad members.
  • Accountable for defining compensation, benefits, and promotion criteria for all Chapter members.
  • Oversee the implementation of effective performance management processes, aiding squad leaders and product owners in enhancing squad performance.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where Chapter members feel empowered to innovate, experiment, and learn from setbacks.
  • Serve as a role model for values such as productivity, quality, transparency, and openness, integrating these into the Chapter's operational practices.
  • Ensure effective communication channels are established to promote knowledge sharing within the Chapter.
  • Guarantee that engineering, design, and testing standards comply with Admiral IT governance and architectural standards, particularly in a regulated environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide line management for all technical squad members within the Chapter, focusing on coaching and mentoring aligned with agile principles and Admiral values.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding processes for all technical members at the squad level.
  • Support personal and technical skill development for squad members to enhance overall operational performance.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and promotion processes for Chapter members effectively.
  • Assist squads in achieving their objectives by facilitating problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making.
  • Enhance squad performance through effective performance management, leveraging feedback from squad leads and product owners.
  • Identify and impart essential software and hardware engineering skills necessary for producing high-quality code and solutions.
  • Act as a senior coach and advisor to Agile Squads, balancing involvement to add value while allowing autonomy for problem-solving.
  • Support knowledge transfer between squads and the broader organization through clear communication channels.

INTERACTION AND COLLABORATION

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with technical staff.
  • Facilitate annual performance reviews and coordinate personal development plans.
  • Maintain close relationships with Tribe leadership to understand the developmental needs of team members.
  • Participate in portfolio syncs and checkpoints, assisting teams in overcoming systemic challenges.
  • Shield teams from distractions and non-essential tasks.
  • Collaborate with Tribe Leadership to assess and monitor staffing requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in delivering quality solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Expertise in line management through effective coaching and mentoring.
  • Familiarity with Scrum methodologies and associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deployment.
  • Extensive knowledge of designing and developing solutions for Guidewire Claims Centre, covering a comprehensive range of relevant technologies.
  • Understanding of engineering, design, and testing standards that align with internal IT governance and architectural standards.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

The selection process will consist of three stages, including an online assessment and two interviews conducted via MS Teams.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
