POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary role of a Chapter Lead is to enhance the capabilities of the technical personnel within the Tribe. You will provide them with the necessary skills, tools, and standardized methodologies to achieve operational excellence, ensuring their focus remains on delivering value to the organization. The Chapter Lead is also responsible for the line management of the technical staff within the tribe.

In addition, as a Chapter Lead, you will function as a Senior Engineer within the Claims Tribe, assisting your Head of Chapter in developing these capabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and implementing high-quality solutions for our end users and clients. The Chapter Lead guarantees that engineering excellence is maintained throughout the Tribe.

ROLE CAPABILITIES

This is a remarkable opportunity to be part of a diverse agile team in IT BTG - Applications, where you will contribute to the development of our core internal customer-facing applications that facilitate customer interaction with our products.

We are an innovative team utilizing advanced technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Guidewire, and top-tier tools like NPM and CI/CD processes.

IT BTG - Applications consists of small, inclusive, and collaborative teams. We promote an environment where team members can share ideas, solutions, and participate in decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of the teams and the products we deliver.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, and retention of technical resources, including career pathway development for all technical squad members.
  • Accountable for defining and establishing compensation, benefits, and promotions for all members of the relevant Chapter.
  • Responsible for implementing effective performance management processes that support squad leaders and product owners in enhancing squad performance.
  • Ensure an inclusive environment where Chapter members feel safe to innovate, experiment, and learn from failures.
  • Act as a role model for applying core values: productivity, quality, transparency, and openness, while minimizing internal politics in the Chapter's operations.
  • Facilitate open and effective communication channels to promote knowledge transfer within the Chapter.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering, design, and testing standards that align with Admiral IT governance and architectural standards in a heavily regulated environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide line management duties for all Squad technical members within the relevant Chapter, focusing on coaching and mentoring aligned with agile principles and Admiral values.
  • Oversee technical resource recruitment, retention, and the onboarding process for all Squad-level technical members.
  • Support personal and technical skills development for all Squad-level technical members to enhance overall Squad performance.
  • Administer career development for all Squad-level technical members within the Chapter.
  • Manage compensation, benefits, and promotion processes for Chapter members effectively.
  • Assist Squads in achieving their objectives by aiding in problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making.
  • Enhance Squad performance through effective performance management controls, leveraging input from Squad Leads and Product Owners, and providing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Identify and impart essential software and hardware engineering skills required for developing high-quality code, components, systems, and solutions.
  • Serve as a senior coach and advisor to Agile Squads, maintaining a balance between providing value and allowing them to solve problems independently.
  • Support Squad Leads and Product Owners in knowledge transfer between Squads and the broader organization through clear communication channels.

KEY INTERACTIONS

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with technical staff members.
  • Facilitate annual performance reviews and coordinate personal development plans.
  • Maintain a close relationship with Tribe leadership to understand the development needs of their personnel.
  • Participate in quarterly Portfolio Sync and weekly Portfolio checkpoint sessions, assisting teams in overcoming systemic impediments.
  • Help safeguard teams from distractions and unnecessary tasks.
  • Collaborate with Tribe Leadership to assess and monitor staffing requirements.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Extensive experience in delivering quality solutions throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment.
  • Proficient in line management through coaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Familiarity with Scrum development practices and associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deployment.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in designing and developing solutions for Guidewire Claims Centre, utilizing a comprehensive range of technologies to achieve business value.
  • Understanding of engineering, design, and testing standards that comply with internal IT governance and architectural standards in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, etc.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

The interview process will consist of three stages, including an online assessment and two interviews conducted via MS Teams.
