POSITION OVERVIEW

The primary role of a Chapter Lead is to enhance the skills and capabilities of the technical personnel within the Tribe. You will provide them with the necessary tools, methodologies, and best practices to achieve operational excellence, ensuring their focus remains on delivering value to the organization. The Chapter Lead is also responsible for the line management of the technical team members within the tribe.

In addition, as a Chapter Lead, you will function as a Senior Engineer within the Claims Tribe, assisting your Head of Chapter in developing the necessary capabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and implementing high-quality solutions for our end users and clients. The Chapter Lead guarantees that engineering excellence is maintained across the Tribe.

ROLE SCOPE

This is a remarkable opportunity to be part of a versatile agile team in IT BTG - Applications, where you will contribute to the development of our essential internal customer-facing applications that facilitate customer interaction with our offerings.

We are an innovative team utilizing advanced technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Guidewire, along with top-tier tools like NPM and CI/CD processes.

IT BTG - Applications consists of small, inclusive, and collaborative teams. We promote an environment where team members can share ideas, solutions, and participate in decision-making to enhance the effectiveness of the teams and the products we deliver.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable for the recruitment, development, and retention of technical talent, including career pathway development for all technical squad members.
  • Responsible for defining and establishing compensation, benefits, and promotion criteria for all members of the relevant Chapter.
  • Oversee effective performance management processes, supporting squad leaders and product owners in enhancing squad performance.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where Chapter members feel empowered to innovate, experiment, and learn from setbacks.
  • Act as a role model for the values of productivity, quality, transparency, and openness, integrating these into the Chapter's operations and outcomes.
  • Facilitate open communication channels to promote knowledge sharing within the Chapter.
  • Ensure that engineering, design, and testing standards comply with Admiral IT governance and architectural standards while operating in a highly regulated environment.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Provide line management for all technical squad members within the Chapter, focusing on coaching and mentoring aligned with agile principles and Admiral values.
  • Manage the recruitment, retention, and onboarding processes for all technical squad members.
  • Support personal and technical skills development for squad members to enhance operational performance.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and promotion processes for Chapter members effectively.
  • Assist squads in achieving their objectives by aiding in problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making.
  • Enhance squad performance through effective performance management, utilizing feedback from squad leads and product owners.
  • Identify and impart the necessary software and hardware engineering skills to support the development of high-quality code and solutions.
  • Serve as a senior coach and advisor to Agile Squads, balancing managerial involvement with autonomy for problem-solving.
  • Support knowledge transfer between squads and the broader organization through clear communication.

INTERACTIONS

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with technical staff.
  • Facilitate annual performance reviews and coordinate personal development plans.
  • Maintain close relationships with Tribe leadership to understand the developmental needs of their teams.
  • Participate in portfolio syncs and checkpoint sessions, assisting teams in overcoming systemic challenges.
  • Shield teams from distractions and unnecessary tasks.
  • Collaborate with Tribe Leadership to assess and monitor staffing requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience in delivering quality solutions throughout the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment.
  • Proficient in line management through coaching and mentoring techniques.
  • Familiarity with Scrum development practices and associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deployment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of designing and developing solutions for Guidewire Claims Centre, utilizing a full stack of relevant technologies.
  • Understanding of engineering, design, and testing standards that align with internal IT governance and architectural standards in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.

APPLICATION PROCESS

This role involves a three-stage interview process, including an online assessment and two interviews conducted via MS Teams.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
