POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chapter Lead plays a pivotal role in enhancing the skills and capabilities of the technical personnel within the Tribe. Your focus will be on equipping team members with the necessary tools, methodologies, and expertise to achieve operational excellence, ensuring that they prioritize delivering value to the organization.

In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will also function as a Senior Engineer within the Claims Tribe, collaborating closely with your Head of Chapter to advance the team's capabilities. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and implementing high-quality solutions for our end users and clients. The Chapter Lead is committed to fostering engineering excellence across the Tribe.

This is an exciting chance to become part of a diverse and agile IT team within BTG - Applications, where you will contribute to the development of our core internal applications that facilitate customer interactions with our products.

Our team is at the forefront of technology, utilizing advanced tools such as Java, JavaScript, Guidewire, along with industry-leading practices like NPM and CI/CD.

IT BTG - Applications consists of small, inclusive teams that promote collaboration and open communication. We encourage team members to share insights, propose solutions, and participate in decision-making to enhance team effectiveness and the quality of our deliverables.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of technical talent, including creating career pathways for all technical squad members.
  • Define and manage compensation, benefits, and promotional opportunities for all Chapter members.
  • Implement effective performance management processes to support squad leaders and product owners in enhancing squad performance.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where Chapter members feel empowered to innovate, experiment, and learn from their experiences.
  • Serve as a role model for the values of productivity, quality, transparency, and openness, integrating these principles into the Chapter's operations.
  • Facilitate open communication channels to promote knowledge sharing within the Chapter.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering, design, and testing standards in accordance with Admiral IT governance and architectural guidelines, particularly in a regulated environment.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Provide line management for all technical squad members, focusing on coaching and mentoring aligned with agile principles and Admiral values.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding processes for all technical squad members.
  • Support the personal and technical development of squad members to enhance overall squad performance.
  • Administer compensation, benefits, and promotion processes for Chapter members effectively.
  • Assist squads in achieving their objectives by facilitating problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making.
  • Enhance squad performance through effective performance management, leveraging feedback from squad leads and product owners.
  • Identify and impart essential software and hardware engineering skills necessary for developing high-quality code and solutions.
  • Act as a senior coach and advisor to Agile Squads, maintaining a balance between providing support and allowing autonomy.
  • Assist squad leads and product owners in knowledge transfer across squads and the broader organization through clear communication.

INTERACTIONS

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with technical staff.
  • Perform annual performance evaluations and coordinate personal development plans.
  • Maintain close relationships with Tribe leadership to understand the developmental needs of team members.
  • Participate in portfolio syncs and checkpoints, helping teams to eliminate systemic obstacles.
  • Shield teams from distractions and unnecessary tasks.
  • Collaborate with Tribe leadership to assess and monitor staffing requirements.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience in delivering quality solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Expertise in line management through coaching and mentoring.
  • Familiarity with Scrum methodologies and associated tools for testing and continuous integration and deployment.
  • In-depth knowledge of designing and developing solutions for Guidewire Claims Centre, covering a full range of relevant technologies.
  • Understanding of engineering, design, and testing standards that align with internal IT governance and architectural standards in a regulated setting.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

The selection process will consist of three stages, including an online assessment and two interviews conducted via MS Teams.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
