What will your responsibilities include?

In this pivotal role, you will contribute significantly to the advancement of Reach plc's Local News Partnership, collaborating with various media outlets to maximize the reach of your team's narratives. You will oversee the editorial lists and content produced by our local democracy journalists, pinpointing essential stories and political trends, ensuring they are conveyed in a compelling and insightful manner.

Your duties will involve editing and publishing articles to maintain high standards, ensuring that all content adheres to optimal headline and SEO practices. You will provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for your team of journalists, cultivating a high-performance environment grounded in trust and clear objectives. Your focus will be on delivering a robust service that aligns with partner expectations, editorial standards, and impartiality principles.

Candidate Profile

Who are we seeking?

The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist, ideally NCTJ qualified (or holding an equivalent senior qualification), with a deep understanding of media regulations and the IPSO editors' code. You may currently be a content editor passionate about public affairs or a seasoned senior reporter with a profound grasp of local political dynamics, looking to transition into a desk role. Your strong news judgment and ability to inspire and motivate a team are essential.

You possess the capability to articulate political and local government issues in an engaging and innovative manner, eliminating jargon and highlighting key points of interest for the audience. Your digital publishing skills are top-notch, with a solid understanding of SEO, and you thrive in a dynamic newsroom setting. You demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and can create impactful headlines and social media promotions, as well as identify and respond to analytics trends.
