Veteran Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veteran Peer Support Worker to join our team at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust. As a Veteran Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality support services to ex-military personnel who have served in the British Armed Forces.
Job SummaryOp COURAGE delivers multidisciplinary care to ex-military personnel who have served in the British Armed Forces. This includes a range of mental health and social interventions. As a Veteran Peer Support Worker, you will work closely with our clinical specialists to provide holistic support to veterans, focusing on reducing social isolation, engaging with meaningful activities, and facilitating engagement with community services.
Main Responsibilities- To empower and support veterans accessing Op COURAGE to engage with the support offered, including explaining how NHS care is provided and using a care and support plan.
- To help veterans who might be socially isolated to identify personal strengths, and to connect in with the veteran community and/or other supportive services which help them feel engaged and independent.
- To contribute to the ongoing co-production, design, and delivery of peer support for service users, including our active service user group and veterans' drop-in.
The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership. Requirements- A recognised qualification in an area related to the workplace or equivalent technical/life skills.
- Understanding of the culture, issues, and needs of ex-service personnel and knowledge of veteran agencies.
- Able to work on own initiative and work as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain boundaries and form positive therapeutic relationships with hard-to-engage service users and carers.
- Able to communicate in a sensitive and reassuring manner.
