Refresco, a leading independent soft drinks manufacturer globally, is looking for a Utilities Maintenance Engineer to become part of our experienced utility maintenance team.

Position: Utilities Maintenance Engineer – Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Salary: £47,614

Shift Schedule: 24/7 operational pattern with an 18-day break: 2 days, 2 nights followed by 4 days off, for 7 cycles, then an 18-day break, which includes your annual leave.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Utilities and Operational Engineering Manager, the Utilities Engineer position is diverse and demands exceptional decision-making abilities, a proactive mindset, and the capacity to make and support critical business decisions. The utilities team is responsible for managing the effluent treatment plant, steam generation systems, compressed air installations, and more.

Key Responsibilities as a Utilities Maintenance Engineer at Refresco

  • Ensure utility service levels are upheld to meet production demands.
  • Maintain departmental standards at the highest level.
  • Support budget adherence through efficient maintenance and spare parts management.
  • Identify opportunities for energy savings and projects aimed at reducing asset downtime.
  • Actively contribute to the implementation of GPTW initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and statutory requirements for all assets within the Utilities Department.
  • Conduct ongoing site monitoring to manage environmental compliance.
  • Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) activities and corrective measures.
  • Uphold hygiene and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards across the utilities department and designated areas.
  • Oversee contractor management on a daily basis.
  • Respond to emergency situations through extended cover, call-ins, and remote monitoring.

Development Objectives

  • Become the first point of contact for all site utilities.
  • Manage steam and condensate systems.
  • Oversee high-pressure/low-pressure compressed air systems.
  • Handle water treatment and distribution.
  • Manage effluent treatment and disposal processes.
  • Oversee chemical dosing and delivery systems.
  • Control cooling tower and Legionella management systems.
  • Manage building management systems.
  • Oversee canteen and colleague welfare facilities.
  • Manage air handling and fixed cooling equipment.
  • Supervise roller, rapid, fire, and pedestrian doors.
  • Manage fire suppression and detection systems.

Training and Development Opportunities for the Right Candidate:

Candidate Profile:

We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer with NVQ Level 3 or higher to work across various departments and shifts, developing the essential skills for this demanding role.

As a qualified maintenance engineer, you should possess hands-on experience in executing basic maintenance tasks and demonstrate a solid foundational understanding of engineering principles. A positive attitude and a commitment to meeting the service levels required by the site are crucial for success in this role.
