Refresco, a leading independent manufacturer of soft drinks globally, is in search of a Utilities Maintenance Engineer to become part of our skilled utility maintenance team.

Position: Utilities Maintenance Engineer – Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Salary: £47,614

Shift Schedule: 24/7 shift pattern with an 18-day break: 2 days, 2 nights followed by 4 days off, repeated for 7 blocks, including your annual leave.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Utilities and Operational Engineering Manager, the Utilities Engineer position is diverse and demands strong decision-making capabilities, a proactive mindset, and the ability to make critical business decisions. The utilities team is responsible for managing the effluent treatment plant, steam generation systems, compressed air networks, and more.

Key Responsibilities as a Utilities Maintenance Engineer at Refresco

  • Ensure utility service levels are upheld to meet production demands.
  • Maintain departmental standards at the highest level.
  • Support budget adherence through effective maintenance and spare parts management.
  • Identify opportunities for energy savings and projects aimed at reducing asset downtime.
  • Actively contribute to the implementation of GPTW initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and statutory requirements for all assets within the Utilities Department.
  • Conduct ongoing site monitoring to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and corrective actions.
  • Uphold hygiene and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards within the utilities department and designated areas.
  • Manage contractor oversight on a daily basis.
  • Respond to crisis situations through extended cover, call-ins, and remote monitoring.

Development Objectives

  • Become the first point of contact for all site utilities.
  • Gain expertise in steam and condensate systems.
  • Manage high-pressure/low-pressure compressed air systems.
  • Oversee water treatment and distribution.
  • Handle effluent treatment and disposal processes.
  • Manage chemical dosing and delivery systems.
  • Oversee cooling tower and Legionella control systems.
  • Manage building management systems.
  • Ensure the functionality of canteen and colleague welfare facilities.
  • Oversee air handling and fixed cooling equipment.
  • Manage roller, rapid, fire, and pedestrian doors.
  • Oversee fire suppression and detection systems.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a Maintenance Engineer with NVQ Level 3 or higher qualifications to work across various departments and shifts, developing the necessary skills for this dynamic role.

As a qualified maintenance engineer, you should possess hands-on experience in performing basic maintenance tasks and demonstrate a solid foundational understanding of engineering principles. A positive attitude and a commitment to meeting the service levels required by the site are essential for success in this role.
