About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Database Technologist to join our team at Synnovis Group LLP. As a key member of our Molecular Diagnosis laboratory, you will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Sample Management: You will be responsible for booking in samples, DNA extraction, and PCR assay setup within our semi-automated laboratory.
  2. Housekeeping Duties: You will perform various housekeeping duties, including administration, maintenance of equipment, laboratory cleaning duties, disposal of waste, maintaining bench stocks of reagents and consumables, and routine administration tasks.
  3. Customer Service: You will provide a helpful and professional service to all visitors and telephone callers.
  4. Continuing Professional Development: You will maintain knowledge of clinical molecular genetics and undertake continual professional development activities.
Working with Our Team

You will be part of a team of 23, comprising of clinical scientists, biomedical scientists, and genetic technologists. You will work closely with Healthcare Scientists to deliver a high-quality service.

Technical Requirements
  1. Diagnostic Service: You will participate in the provision of a comprehensive and appropriate diagnostic service to users through the collection, reception, booking in, and preparation of samples for analysis, under the supervision of Senior Healthcare Scientists.
  2. Laboratory Investigations: You will use manual, semi-automated, and fully-automated laboratory investigations in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  3. Quality Control: You will monitor fridge and freezer temperatures, prepare and pack samples dispatched to other laboratories, and perform and maintain the quality checking procedures in the laboratory to measure and monitor the accuracy and precision of laboratory investigations.
  4. Other Duties: You will complete other appropriate duties as directed by the Deputy Head and Head of the laboratory.
Scientific Knowledge
  1. Scientific Basis: You will develop an understanding of the scientific basis of laboratory work, including genetics and haematology.
  2. Continuing Professional Development: You will improve scientific knowledge and awareness of developments in the appropriate field of expertise via Continuing Professional Development (CPD) ensuring this knowledge is passed on to staff where appropriate.
  3. Quality Control: You will observe departmental Quality Control procedures.
  4. Audit: You will participate in audit to highlight deficiencies in pre-examination, examination, and post-examination process as required by the laboratory managers.

Synnovis Group LLP is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.
