Genetic Insights Specialist for Precision Medicine

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Novo Nordisk AS Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Genetic Insights Specialist to leverage advanced human genetics knowledge to enhance trial outcomes and facilitate genetics-driven precision medicine initiatives for obesity management.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Offering genetic expertise to project teams focused on advancing specific therapies through the drug development pipeline,
  • Collaborating with colleagues to pinpoint opportunities where genetics can inform strategic decisions, such as indication selection, target population identification, and understanding adverse effects,
  • Integrating genetic data with other omics disciplines—proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and epigenetics—to gain insights into and personalize treatment responses,
  • Utilizing trial data in conjunction with genetic information to guide decision-making and identify populations most likely to benefit from the therapies developed by our scientists.

You will be expected to initiate and lead your own projects while also contributing your expertise to ongoing initiatives within the Human Genetics Centre of Excellence (CoE). Our research center fosters collaboration, allowing you to work alongside statistical geneticists, clinicians, and computational and laboratory scientists from various disciplines, as well as external partners, to ensure the right treatment reaches the right patient.

We provide a hybrid working environment, allowing for flexibility with a combination of in-office and remote work.

Required Qualifications

We welcome candidates who demonstrate a strong team spirit, meticulous attention to detail, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that encourages creative thinking and knowledge sharing. A genuine interest in applying your expertise in drug development is essential.

We are particularly eager to connect with candidates who possess:

  • A Ph.D. in human genetics, statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, pharmacogenomics, or related fields, with significant contributions to high-impact scientific literature.
  • Several years of postdoctoral experience in the genetics of obesity.
  • Proficiency in high-performance computing systems and programming languages for analyzing large-scale datasets, such as R, Python, or similar.
  • Experience working with extensive genetic datasets and GWAS methodologies, including polygenic risk scores, marker-trait and gene-trait associations, PheWAS, Mendelian Randomization, and co-localization analyses.
  • Strong communication skills to convey insights and present concepts to diverse audiences.
  • A self-motivated approach and the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Previous experience with omics data (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics) will be considered advantageous, as will professional or postdoctoral experience in managing and analyzing clinical trial data within academia or the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.

About Our Department

You will join our Translational Genomics & Precision Medicine Department, part of the Human Genetics Centre of Excellence (CoE) led by Vice President, Joanna Howson PhD. The CoE focuses on utilizing data science and human genetics to discover and develop novel drug targets and biomarkers through various human-centric methodologies, including high-throughput genetic discovery screens, Mendelian randomization, and precision medicine strategies relevant to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), obesity, and rare endocrine and blood disorders.

The CoE is integrated within the newly established Digital Science & Innovation (DSI) organization, which supports the digital transformation across all therapy areas in Research & Early Development. Within DSI, we operate in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating closely with all sectors of Research & Early Development and R&ED IT. We engage in drug development projects throughout the entire value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development, and actively pursue external collaborations to access the latest research and technological advancements, while also focusing on automating our processes and nurturing top talent.
