Overview

Luggage Handling Specialist

Location: Birmingham Airport

Pay: £14.06 per hour

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Please note that this role will require you to work unsociable hours, with early shifts starting as early as 0230hrs and late shifts concluding at 0200hrs. Flexibility and the ability to work a varied shift pattern are essential.

As a Luggage Handling Specialist, you will play a vital role in our mission to achieve excellence, setting the benchmark for the industry. You will enhance the customer experience by providing information, support, and timely updates. Behind the scenes, you will utilize our advanced systems to track down delayed luggage and coordinate its delivery to the customer.

Additionally, you will assist customers who may have left items on board an aircraft or help them arrange repairs or replacements for any damaged luggage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for passengers reporting baggage delays or damage.
  • Adhere to each airline's specific operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the station, as well as with other handlers and airlines globally.
  • Input, trace, and manage records through industry-standard tracing software to locate missing luggage and document damaged items.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers throughout the process via phone and/or email.
  • Assist the local team in rerouting bags that miss flights departing from your station to aid our departing customers.
  • Safeguard passengers' belongings while in our custody.
  • Organize the delivery of luggage to customers in accordance with airline agreements.
  • Document lost property found on flights to ensure clear tracking for customers.

Qualifications

  • Show commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Have achieved at least three Standard Grades / GCSE's / O Level or a Leaving Certificate.
  • International equivalents are also acceptable.
  • Be fluent in both spoken and written English.
  • Additional language skills are always a plus.
  • Be flexible regarding various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Free parking at the airport is provided, but if you prefer public transport, please note that early and late shifts may limit accessibility.
  • Be computer literate and willing to learn Swissport and airline-specific systems.
  • Have the ability and willingness to follow processes and procedures while applying a flexible approach when necessary.
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as part of a larger team.
  • Be physically fit and able to carry up to 32kgs over short distances.
  • Ideally, have prior experience with World Tracer, though training will be provided if not.
