Position Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for a locum consultant specializing in obstetrics and gynaecology. This interim role is designed to cover maternity leave within a dynamic department, which is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
The successful candidate will become part of a well-established team of consultants, contributing to a busy and supportive environment that prioritizes high standards in medical practice.
Main Responsibilities
The appointee will actively participate in the educational curriculum for both trainees and medical students associated with the department. Responsibilities will include:
- Engagement in undergraduate teaching and training.
- Participation in the delivery of comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological services.
- Involvement in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
The hospital features state-of-the-art facilities, including a newly constructed Accident and Emergency Department and specialized units for early pregnancy assessment and emergency gynaecology. The department is equipped with advanced technology for minimal access surgery, enhancing the quality of care provided.
Working Environment
Our Gynaecology Service is renowned for its expertise in managing a diverse range of conditions, including fertility issues, bladder dysfunction, and menopause. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a significant impact in a vibrant inner-city healthcare setting.
Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities
This position entails a comprehensive role in obstetrics and gynaecology, with a commitment of 8 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week. The role includes:
- On-call duties for caesarean sections and Labour Ward.
- Weekly antenatal and general gynaecology clinics.
- Potential for community gynaecology clinic sessions.
Special interests in high-risk obstetrics and adolescent gynaecology are desirable, and there will be opportunities to develop these areas further.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Full GMC registration.
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- MRCOG or equivalent specialist qualification.
- CCT or eligibility for entry within 6 months.
- ATSM in advanced labour ward management.
Desirable Criteria
- Higher degree (MD, PhD).

- Comprehensive experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology.
- Demonstrated clinical excellence.
