Position Overview

We are seeking applications for the position of Clinical Fellow. This role presents a remarkable opportunity for a lead clinical fellow in obstetrics and gynaecology (equivalent to ST6/7) with a focus on developing expertise in the Myoma service.

The lead clinical fellow will be integrated into the general obstetrics and gynaecology rotation.

The successful candidate will also engage in the Acute Gynaecology Unit (AGU) rotation.

This position operates on an 8-week rolling schedule, which includes weekend on-call duties every 8 weeks from 5-9pm on Fridays and 9am-9pm on Saturdays and Sundays, followed by a week off. For 4 weeks, there will be a 5-9pm on-call duty each week, with varying days. This will be succeeded by 2 weeks without any out-of-hours on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

This role will be situated within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George's Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The appointee will collaborate with professional colleagues and local management to ensure the effective operation of the Service. Responsibilities include participation in the Trust's governance and audit systems, as well as maintaining Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). A commitment to engage in the Trust's professional development initiatives is also expected. The appointee will adhere to the Trust's established policies and procedures, developed in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and comply with the standing orders and financial guidelines of the Trust.

About the Organization

The Children & Women's Directorate encompasses a range of specialties including paediatric medicine and surgery, gynaecology, gynaecological oncology, reproductive medicine, urogynaecology, fetal medicine, neonatology, obstetrics, clinical genetics, and clinical psychology.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with professional colleagues and local management to ensure the efficient operation of the Service, sharing in the medical management contributions alongside Consultant colleagues. Participation in the Trust's governance and audit systems, as well as maintaining CME and CPD, is essential. The appointee will also be expected to engage in the Trust's professional development activities and adhere to the Trust's established policies and procedures.

Weekly Responsibilities: The role will involve fixed sessions dedicated to supporting the Myoma service, along with additional flexible sessions contributing to the general senior registrar rotation (minimum of one per week). A proposed outline of this activity is as follows:

Qualifications and Training

Essential Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent, Part 2 MRCOG or equivalent. Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).

Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Completion of foundation years. Experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at ST6/7 level (minimum of 5 years' experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Initiated relevant research during their career. Demonstrated interest in gynaecological surgery.

Skills

Essential Skills

  • Ability to manage basic gynaecological emergencies. Competence in handling a high-risk delivery suite.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in performing transvaginal ultrasound and hysteroscopy. Previous research experience and evidence of publications.

Knowledge

Essential Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of gynaecology. Familiarity with research principles, audit, and quality improvement. Awareness of the significance of patient safety.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Evidence of completed audit and/or quality improvement projects. Involvement in morbidity and mortality meetings and/or risk management.
