Position: Risk & Compliance Manager, Fixed Term Contract

Location: London

Role Purpose:

The Risk & Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the compliance function across various jurisdictions, focusing on areas such as Financial Crime, Risk Management, and Data Protection.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Management:

  • Continuously monitor changes in regulatory requirements relevant to the organization and anticipate future legislative developments.
  • Evaluate compliance policies and procedures to ensure they align with the organization's size and complexity, meeting all regulatory standards.
  • Assess compliance systems and identify areas needing further investigation or follow-up.
  • Conduct training sessions for new employees on compliance-related topics and internal policies.
  • Review and negotiate terms of business agreements with insurers and intermediaries.
  • Provide management information to stakeholders regarding compliance activities and risk management.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports to relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Establish protocols to ensure compliance across different jurisdictions.
  • Assist in evaluating the regulatory framework for clients in unfamiliar jurisdictions.

Financial Crime Oversight:

  • Review and update financial crime policies to ensure they are suitable for the organization's scale and complexity.
  • Develop an internal reporting mechanism for Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and oversee the submission of external SARs when necessary.
  • Incorporate financial crime considerations into the development of new products and service modifications.
  • Keep partners informed about money laundering risks and the strategies in place to manage them.
  • Implement and maintain a Know Your Customer (KYC) procedure.
  • Ensure that staff receive appropriate training on financial crime based on their roles.
  • Maintain effective oversight of all outsourced functions related to financial crime.

Risk Management:

  • Review and monitor strategies for risk and operational risk management.
  • Develop governance structures to support risk management.
  • Ensure effective risk monitoring and mitigation practices are in place, including maintaining a risk register.
  • Report relevant risk information to stakeholders and implement necessary mitigating actions.

Data Protection Responsibilities:

  • Advise the organization on its obligations under data protection laws and enhance the understanding of associated risks and responsibilities.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Adept at building strong working relationships within the organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Proficient in producing management information for reporting purposes.

Desirable Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of FCA regulations, with knowledge of other regulatory frameworks being beneficial.
  • Familiarity with data protection laws, particularly GDPR.
  • Knowledge of financial crime regulations and typical risk mitigation controls.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the UK Financial Services sector, particularly in the general insurance industry.
  • Degree-level education and/or relevant professional qualifications.
