Role Overview:

The Volunteer Engagement Manager will assist in expanding our team of over 200 volunteers, ensuring they receive appropriate recognition and training while being proactive about future volunteering prospects.

This position involves cultivating and supporting existing volunteers and establishing new roles and initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be well-organized, innovative, and adept at multitasking, enjoying a busy environment, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, and continuously seeking improvements.


Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Recruitment and Selection:


Design and execute effective recruitment strategies to attract a diverse range of volunteers through both internal and external outreach activities.

Conduct interviews and selection processes to ensure a suitable match between volunteers' abilities and organizational requirements.

Guide new volunteers through a comprehensive training and orientation program, ensuring they feel confident and satisfied in their roles.


Volunteer Training and Development:

Organize and implement thorough training programs for new volunteers, covering role introductions, customer service, health and safety, and heritage property security.

Develop and deliver training programs for both new and returning volunteers, ensuring adherence to legal and practical guidelines.
Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance volunteers' skills and knowledge.
Conduct a detailed skills assessment of the volunteers to understand their capabilities and expertise.

Volunteer Management and Coordination:

Supervise and coordinate a team of 200 volunteers, collaborating with department heads to assist in scheduling and managing volunteer shifts using our new time and attendance management software.

Act as the primary contact for volunteer inquiries, addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
Organize the Annual Volunteer Celebration, occasional appreciation events, and facilitate other recognition initiatives.
Oversee volunteer welfare and experience, including managing volunteer reimbursements.
Support other department heads in developing, recruiting, and managing their own volunteer teams within their respective areas.

Collaborate with other departments to assist and support their volunteering needs and work closely with Human Resources to ensure that all best practice policies and procedures are upheld.

Lead the Volunteer Steering Group, ensuring volunteer perspectives are acknowledged and their contributions valued.

Program Expansion and Innovation:
Broaden the volunteer program by identifying new volunteering opportunities, collaborating with Corporate Volunteering.
Partner with third-party volunteering organizations for tailored one-off volunteering projects.
Stay informed on trends in volunteering to ensure the program remains relevant and engaging.

Additional Requirements:
A valid driving license and personal vehicle are necessary to commute to our remote location.

The role involves both office-based and on-site responsibilities, including outdoor settings in varying weather conditions.
