**Girlguiding North East England Region External Trustee**

**VOLUNTEER ROLE**

**Are you passionate about providing opportunities for girls and young women to develop their full potential in North East England?**

**If so, maybe you could become our new trustee**

The Region needs trustees from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience. Being a trustee will give you the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation. You will gain an insight into the workings of Girlguiding North East England and be able to bring your skills to support and help develop its strategic direction. You will play an essential role in supporting the implementation of the region strategy.

In this role you will be a member of the Girlguiding North East England Trustee Group, who are responsible for ensuring effective governance within the region.

This is a vital role in supporting the region to ensure it meets its legal responsibilities as a charity, to inform the region strategy and help shape the future of the region.

The Chair and trustees have overall responsibility for the policy and strategic management of Girlguiding North East England. The day-to-day operations are conducted by Girlguiding North East England staff and volunteers under the overall leadership and supervision of the trustees.

You will be a Trustee registered with the Charity Commission.

This role is suited to someone aged 18 and above. _It is an unpaid role; however, all reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed._

**Skills and experience**

For this role you will have the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

- A commitment to the aims and objectives of Girlguiding North East England, and a proactive interest and enthusiasm in shaping and advising on the future of Girlguiding North East England.
- Relevant skills and experience drawn from a professional or community background.
- A willingness to devote time and effort in both preparing for and attending trustee and other relevant meetings.
- Good independent judgement and the ability to give constructive challenge.
- An ability to think creatively and strategically.
- An ability to understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- The ability to represent Girlguiding North East England internally and externally.
- An ability to work effectively as a member of a team while contributing an independent perspective.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to analyse and interpret information and use electronic means of communication.

You may also have knowledge of some of the following:

- Management and leadership of volunteers.
- Strategic planning.
- Charity governance and management.
- Finance and or risk management

**Length of appointment**

This role is for a term of 3 years, with the possibility to extend by up to a further two years by mutual agreement.
