About Castle Howard Estate: Castle Howard Estate is a vibrant rural estate and renowned visitor destination, attracting over 250,000 guests each year. Established over three centuries ago, it continues to be a family residence and offers a range of attractions, including a historic house, expansive gardens, a dynamic events calendar, two retail shops, a farm shop, a garden centre, multiple cafés, and various estate enterprises such as agriculture, forestry, rental properties, and a holiday park. The estate is also available for private events.

The Role of Volunteers:

  • Volunteers are essential in maintaining this remarkable family estate by engaging with visitors and fostering interest in local heritage.

Position Purpose

  • The Community Engagement Coordinator will enhance and expand our team of over 200 volunteers, ensuring they receive appropriate recognition and training while exploring new volunteering avenues. This position involves cultivating existing volunteer relationships and developing new roles and initiatives. The ideal candidate will be organized, innovative, and adept at multitasking, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Recruitment and Selection:

  • Design and execute effective recruitment strategies to attract a diverse range of volunteers through outreach initiatives.
  • Conduct interviews and selection processes to align volunteers' skills with organizational needs.
  • Guide new volunteers through a comprehensive training and orientation program, ensuring they feel confident and valued in their roles.

Volunteer Training and Development:

  • Plan and implement thorough training programs for new volunteers, covering role-specific training, customer service, health and safety, and property security.
  • Create and deliver ongoing training sessions for both new and returning volunteers, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and best practices.
  • Provide continuous development opportunities to enhance volunteers' skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct a detailed skills assessment of volunteers to identify their capabilities and areas for growth.

Volunteer Management and Coordination:

  • Oversee and coordinate a team of 200 volunteers, collaborating with department heads to manage scheduling and volunteer shifts using our time and attendance management software.
  • Act as the primary contact for volunteer inquiries, addressing any concerns or issues in a timely manner.
  • Organize the Annual Volunteer Celebration, along with other appreciation events and recognition initiatives.
  • Ensure volunteer welfare and experience are prioritized, including managing volunteer reimbursements.
  • Support department heads in developing, recruiting, and managing their own volunteer teams.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet their volunteering needs and work closely with Human Resources to uphold best practice policies.
  • Lead the Volunteer Steering Group, ensuring that volunteer feedback is valued and their contributions acknowledged.

Program Expansion and Innovation:

  • Broaden the volunteer program by identifying new opportunities and collaborating with corporate volunteering initiatives.
  • Partner with external volunteering organizations for unique, one-off projects.
  • Stay informed on volunteering trends to keep the program engaging and relevant.

Additional Requirements:

  • A valid driving license and personal vehicle are necessary for travel to our location.
  • This role involves both office-based and on-site responsibilities, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
