Position Overview

NHS Scotland is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic senior pharmacist to enhance our pharmacy team. The ideal candidate will oversee clinical pharmacy operations for the gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease departments, aligning with NHS Scotland's core principles of integrity, equity, excellence, and collaboration.

This role requires working closely with the gastroenterology multidisciplinary team (MDT) to create and implement a strategic vision for the service, which must adapt to the evolving landscape of healthcare. Candidates should possess experience in service innovation, financial management, and project oversight.

We are looking for an individual who can inspire and lead both pharmacy staff and the broader hospital community, serving as a role model while delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead clinical pharmacy services for gastroenterology and inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Collaborate with the MDT to develop and execute service improvement initiatives.
  • Manage resources effectively while meeting deadlines.
  • Provide training and mentorship to pharmacy staff and postgraduate students.
  • Conduct clinical audits to enhance practice standards.

Qualifications Required

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Continuing Professional Development as mandated by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Independent prescribing qualification with practical experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years in hospital pharmacy, including 4 years in a clinical or specialized area.
  • Strong analytical skills to monitor and evaluate patient therapeutic regimens.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to participate in weekend and holiday shifts as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in gastroenterology.
  • Capability to serve as a pre-registration pharmacist tutor.
  • Ability to influence senior staff and collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team.

Employment Details

This is a permanent, full-time position requiring 37 hours per week. The role will primarily be based in NHS Scotland facilities, with the expectation of working across multiple sites as necessary.
