Position Overview

We are in search of a dedicated and proficient Advanced Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Emergency Care to become a vital member of our distinguished team. This position is ideal for a seasoned medical professional eager to enhance their trauma expertise and engage in comprehensive trauma management at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. As a tertiary facility, we encompass all specialties with the exception of cardiothoracic, providing ample opportunities to encounter a diverse array of trauma cases. During your tenure, you will be allocated specific time to cultivate your major trauma proficiency, alongside opportunities to participate in surgical skills and trauma-focused courses, as well as airway management sessions should you wish to further refine these competencies.

In your role as an Advanced Clinical Fellow, you will be instrumental in delivering exceptional patient care, spearheading advanced clinical interventions, and contributing to the educational and research objectives of our department. You will be assigned to trauma shifts and will play a crucial role in the management of intricate trauma cases.

Core Responsibilities

Key Duties

- Clinical Proficiency: Deliver advanced medical care within the Trauma and Emergency Department, efficiently managing complex and critically ill patients.

- Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and oversee junior medical personnel, promoting a collaborative and educational atmosphere.

- Advanced Interventions: Execute and supervise a variety of emergency procedures, including advanced airway management, resuscitation efforts, and trauma interventions.

- Collaborative Care: Partner closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure holistic patient care.

- Education & Development: Lead and engage in educational initiatives, training programs, and simulation exercises for medical staff and trainees.

- Quality Enhancement: Actively engage in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and departmental effectiveness.

About Our Organization

The Emergency Medicine Directorate at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operates two Emergency Departments, providing a comprehensive 24-hour service. Our facility is recognized as the regional Major Trauma Centre, offering consultant-led trauma team leadership throughout the week. The Trust has made significant investments in advanced medical technology, including a new CT scanner with direct access to the resuscitation area, and is committed to ongoing enhancements to the Emergency Department to improve patient care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent (primary medical degree as recognized by the GMC)
  • Certification in ALS, APLS, and at least one of: ATLS/ETC

Desirable

  • Higher qualification: FRCEM (Primary), FRCEM (Intermediate), MRCS, MRCP, etc.
  • Instructor status in ALS, ATLS, APLS, etc.
  • Completion of ST3, or equivalent, in Emergency Medicine

Experience

Essential

  • 4 years of postgraduate medical experience/training, with at least 12 months in Emergency Medicine (minimum 6 months in the UK in a training or middle-grade post at ST4+ level or above)
  • Anaesthetic experience.
  • Must not have been out of clinical practice for longer than 2 years.

Desirable

  • Broader capability in patient assessment and a working knowledge of minor illnesses and injuries
