Senior CAMHS Practitioner

London, Greater London, United Kingdom East London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time, fixed-term (12 months) Senior CAMHS Practitioner to join our Adolescent Mental Health Team.

We are in search of a dedicated, skilled, and passionate Qualified Mental Health Practitioner (such as a Clinical Psychologist, Registered Mental Health Nurse, or Family Therapist) to integrate into a well-established multidisciplinary team within a dynamic and diverse Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. The ideal candidate should possess both expertise and a strong commitment to working with adolescents and their families, particularly in addressing complex mental health challenges.

As a care coordinator within the Adolescent Mental Health Team, the successful candidate will oversee the care of adolescents facing intricate and often high-risk mental health issues, including first-episode psychosis, severe depression, emotional dysregulation, and complex trauma.

This role is suitable for qualified mental health practitioners currently engaged in community CAMHS settings, as well as those looking to expand their skills and therapeutic methodologies.

Main Responsibilities

The Adolescent Mental Health Team is a well-functioning multidisciplinary unit within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. The team comprises Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses, a Systemic Family Therapist, a Clinical Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry professionals. It is tasked with providing early intervention in psychosis for young individuals aged 13 to 18, as well as offering mental health support to those at high risk of severe self-harm.

The team operates on a model that includes both collaborative and individual work with young people and their families. A variety of interventions are offered, including therapeutic care coordination, systemic family therapy, individual therapy (CBT, psychoanalytical psychotherapy, narrative therapy), and psychiatric support. The team adheres to a Care Pathway model of service delivery within a multidisciplinary framework, holding regular team meetings to discuss high-risk cases. A developmental approach is incorporated in understanding young people's presentations and adolescent personality development. Due to the severity of their mental health challenges, young individuals often engage in long-term interventions with the team.

About Us

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all individuals we serve. Our core values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive. We are looking for individuals who embody these principles in their support for service users and their interactions with colleagues within the Trust and our partner organizations.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Effectively manage a caseload of clients with highly complex mental health needs using a Care Programme Approach.
  • Collaborate within a cohesive multidisciplinary team and contribute to team meetings, care plans, treatment reviews, and Care Programme Approaches.
  • Work jointly with other professionals within the team to provide assessments and interventions to clients.
  • Deliver specialized systemic and family interventions to clients of the Adolescent Mental Health Team.
  • Participate in a team duty system and confidently respond to young individuals presenting in crisis.
  • Adopt a client-centered and sensitive approach to therapy, collaborating with clients (and/or their caregivers when appropriate) throughout the therapeutic process.
  • Document and report any incidents related to therapy or client care in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Respond professionally to distressing conditions or behaviors, demonstrating empathy and sensitivity.
  • Be vigilant regarding safeguarding concerns and follow local and national protocols in addressing such issues, seeking support from the team and senior colleagues as necessary.
  • Attend regular management and clinical supervision sessions.
  • Maintain professional standards and stay current with professional registration.
  • Operate flexibly to incorporate home visits and off-site sessions tailored to clients' individual needs.
  • Adhere to professional standards and ensure registration remains up to date.
