Job Overview

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION - To deliver comprehensive middle-grade support to the Supra Regional Paediatric Liver Service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical:

Supervise Senior House Officers and collaborate with Specialist Registrars in the daily management of liver patients within the designated wards, Day Case Unit, and Outpatient clinics.

Ensure effective communication, both verbal and written, with patients, families, general practitioners, and referring consultants.

Oversee all documentation and care related to paediatric hepatology inpatients.

Participate in consultant-led ward rounds.

Teaching:

Support the education of undergraduate medical students in partnership with specialist registrars and consultants.

Research/Audit:

Engage in departmental research initiatives and participate in audits as encouraged.

Administration:

Manage the daily operations of junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

The Paediatric Liver Centre, a leading supra-regional tertiary referral facility, has established itself as the largest in the UK since 1986. It is renowned for its research and exceptional clinical care for children suffering from acute and chronic liver diseases, metabolic liver disorders, pre and post-liver transplant care, short gut syndrome, and complex hepatobiliary surgeries. Current research projects focus on autoimmune liver disease, biliary atresia, cholestatic liver diseases, hepatocyte transplantation, viral hepatitis, and acute liver failure.

Job Responsibilities

Overview of Training:

Clinical Training and Responsibilities:

Advanced management of intricate hepatological and gastrointestinal conditions, including fulminant hepatic failure and short bowel syndrome.

Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic liver diseases, metabolic liver disorders, and liver tumors.

Evaluation of patients for liver and small bowel transplantation.

Comprehensive care during pre, intra, and post-transplant phases.

Management of post-transplant immunosuppression protocols.

Provide counseling to families of children with complex hepatic and gastrointestinal issues.

Follow-up care for children with complex liver and chronic intestinal disorders.

Conduct nutritional assessments, including dietary needs and support techniques.

Collaborate with other specialists (surgery, radiology, pathology, etc.) to enhance patient care.

Engage in research and audit activities within the fields of hepatology, immunology, and gastroenterology.

Develop teaching skills for undergraduate medical education and enhance awareness of educational tools.
