London, Greater London, United Kingdom Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Rheumatology (Equivalent to ST4-8)

Duration: 6 months Fixed Term (with potential for extension)

Work Schedule: Full Time with Out of Hours commitment (2 positions available)

An exceptional opportunity has arisen within the Rheumatology Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, providing candidates with the chance to acquire practical experience in this paediatric specialty within a dynamic and distinctive environment of a busy children's hospital.

As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, you will participate as a middle-grade physician in the educational and training initiatives of the department. The workload will be collaboratively managed among 3 Specialist Registrars, 4 Clinical Fellows, and 2 Honorary Fellows. Flexibility in working hours is essential to ensure effective handover between middle grades and to maintain continuous coverage for inpatients and day cases. This role does not entail an 'out of hours' commitment involving long shifts, weekends, or night duties. Annual Leave and Study Leave will be managed prospectively within the team.

This position is designed for individuals aiming to deepen their expertise in Paediatric Rheumatology, particularly those looking to consolidate their prior experience or training in this field. A valid MRCPCH (or equivalent) is a prerequisite.

Main Responsibilities

Role Scope

Within the clinical rheumatology service, the workload will be shared with 1 Specialist Registrar and 5 Clinical Fellows. This arrangement will ensure sufficient time for post holders to engage in training opportunities within the working time regulations. Annual and study leave will be cross-covered within the team.

General Information

The Rheumatology Unit consists of a clinical team comprising medical professionals, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, clinical nurse specialists, and specially trained nurses for inpatient care. The Academic Unit is led by Prof. Lucy Wedderburn, with Professor Paul Brogan serving as the clinical lead. The unit includes a total of 7 consultants, with one consultant overseeing inpatient care at any given time, while all maintain regular outpatient clinics. Adolescents receive care at the Adolescent Centre, with some senior consultants working across both sites.
